Jazmin's Story

"The wildfires completely changed my family & my life. On the night of the wildfires, we were home with our newborn baby (one month old at the time) when we got the alert that we had to evacuate. We quickly evacuated once we got the alert. The only things I was able to/thought to grab was a diaper bag with a few necessities for my baby (diapers, cream, socks, wipes) & our two cats. My boyfriend and I only left with the clothes on our back, not thinking we would lose everything within the next hour. The next morning when we found out our house completely burned, along with all of our belongings, we also found out that we had gotten out just in time as our house completely burned 30 minutes after we left. Never did we think we would lose EVERYTHING & wouldn’t have a home to go back to. Being one month post partum & going through what we went through during that time, has been the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I still don’t think I’ve processed what happened.. sometimes it feels like I’m in a dream, (more like a nightmare). We are currently living in a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment with my boyfriend’s mom, his sister & her 3 cats (we have 5 cats in total now) which has been an adjustment in itself as we all had our own spaces before the fire & now we all have to share a space, with our three month old baby as well. What was supposed to be a period of newborn bliss & our babies first home quickly changed….We are very thankful to mint dental lofts help in raising money for us & many others in our community during this difficult time. The money will be used to buy some essentials for us & our baby. We will also be saving some money so that when the time comes for us to move back to Altadena, we can start over & buy furniture & everything else we lost in the fires. Thank you to mint dental loft & our community for all your help & support. We will rebuild and see you soon Dena! "
